Jag ska bara....// I should have done a million things...

Yesterday I should have done about a million things, moving the lawn was the first, then tidy up the house, doing the laundry and stuff like that. I trained the dogs for a few minutes before I was going to start, and I was in such a good mood…until the lawnmower didn’t start. Instead of being angry and upset about that (well, I was for a couple of minutes), I went for a good long walk by the seaside. The dogs had so much fun, and I realized that doing things like this really must qualify as “catch the day” activities. I mean, the lawn will still be uncut today, the house will still be a mess and the laundry will still be there, but the sun and the moment we had yesterday will never be there again! I tried to capture some of our great moments; I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Mitt lilla rådjur Bonni.

My little bambi Bonni.

Swiming, running, catching the stick - so much fun!

Min fina pärla.

My love.

Världens bästa vänner.

Best friends forever.

Och Bonni simmar....

And Bonni is swimming...

She is about as intensive in the water as on land, like a raceboat :-)

As mentioned, we had a great walk and a lot of fun. All the things I should have done yesterday, I might do today...or the day after ;-)

Have a great day!

Helgen som gick.

Strax berättade just ett riktigt roligt skämt för Bonni :-)
Strax just told Bonni a really good joke :-)

Bonni waiting for her prey to pass by...and the prey is as always Strax.

Vackraste Straxen i världen.
Most beautiful Strax in the world.

Ers majestät Strax.
Your royal highness Strax.

Catch the day and fill it with joy!

I read a sad update on Facebook, friends of mine just lost their old dog. It made me think about all the dogs that has made my life so full of joy. To lose a dog is just like losing a real good human friend, unfortunately only dog-people understands that.

They make a difference in our lives, and we always remember them, just like any good human-friend. I am very fortunate to have some funny, crazy dogs around me, not only the two who happens to live under the same roof as me, but also the two dogs of my sister and recently I have met a nice little fellow that I hope to get to know better.

One story of mine, that I started to think about when reading my friends FB-update, is the story of Bee. I have been writing about it earlier I guess, but still I think it is worth a moment of thought every now and then.

Bee, only hours after our first encounter.

The story of Bee started a cold but beautiful day in the mountains of Kozarac. Me and my college Rob was out on a trip as we had a day off, and decided to head for the mountains. It was quite a lot of snow, and we walked a slippery slope up some hills to look at a memorial monument. Suddenly a very young and small puppy approached me, all alone with no mum in sight. She really tried to get some attention, and I could see that she was in trouble. She was so cold, and her fur was all wet. I lifted her up, and realized she was not only cold, wet and alone, she was also full of flees.

As I was on a mission, working for the EU and employed by the Swedish Armed Forces, I certainly had a good bunch of rules to follow…like NOT bringing stray dogs home and stuff like that. But what could I do? I remember putting her down back in the snow, trying to make her go find her mum and siblings, but she followed me all the way to the car…and well, I guess I bended some rules that day.

However, one rule the Swedish Armed Forces spells out very clearly is that no matter the circumstances, we ought never ever to lose our humanity!!! I decided to follow that rule to any cost, and gosh did it cost me!

Bee and Strax having fun!

I have never regretted that I might have bended some of the rules, that it cost me half a fortune, that I had to put in some fierce arguments to get my will through and that it took me almost a year to bring her lawfully to Sweden. The story of Bee continues as we speak, she lives very happy with her friend Molly in a little wooden house with a big wonderful garden, she has a big bunch of people that loves her and she has even specialized in the demanding field “killing-rodents-all-day-long”.

Of course the story of Bee is somewhat different from most of my dog-stories, but I firmly believe that the dogs in my life is there for a reason, and you better just catch the days with them, because they stay with us way too short!

Bee - a proud sledgedog!

Love your dogs, fight for them, and make sure they live a good and safe doglife. The sorrow when they leave us is inevitable, no matter how we do. But we can make a big difference in their lives, just as they make every day a true joy for us!!

This blog-update is dedicated to Chanko, a Search and Rescue dog I met briefly once, but just as every single dog he has given joy and beautiful memories to a family that loved him, and I am sure he is walking the rainbow bridge with his head and tail held up high.

Little Bee, grand old Molly, crazy Bonni and cosy Strax. One big happy family :-)

Mina monsterhundar!! // My fearless killingmachines!!

They might look innocent to you, but this picture is taken moments before the deadly strike!!

It sounds crazy, but my dogs butchered these two predators without a second of hesitation!!!

Om jag är barnslig? Jo, så är det nog. Men roligt har jag iallafall :-)
If I am childish?! Well...yes, but at least I do have a lot of fun!! :-)

And this is the reason why I didn't go to Norway for the dog show this past weekend - I went to buy this sweet ride for me and my dogs instead! It's so great, I just love it!!

Strax första träning med Försvars-gänget// First training with the Armed Forces Team.

We have had our first training! The pictures below are followed by some comments, and further down you'll find some more to read!

About to embark on our first patrol. We probably did all the mistakes possible, but on the picture above we at least have the right position, and we are looking for the "enemy" supposedly hanging around in the woods! :-)

Jag och Strax står och reflekterar.

Me and Strax thinking about stuff :-)

Strax detected the enemy far before we entered the patrol-trail, on this picture the person is right infront of Strax, about 70 meters out in the woods :-)

Strax i basen.

Strax in "base", behind him in the forest there are several more dogs waiting.

My forestanimal Strax found a place he could rest comfortably at. Unfortunately the mosquitoes did their best to bother us. Luckily Strax has a thick fur!

Yesterday we had our first training regarding the Swedish Armed Forces Dog (hereinafter SAFD) and Strax did very well. We trained what is called “base” meaning that he should be able to relax also when left alone among many other dogs in the woods. We place the dogs with a few meters distance, and they should just stay there and be quiet and calm until the owners or someone else comes to pick them up. Despite that some dogs stressed quite a lot, barking and chewing on threes, Strax managed to lie down and be totally calm during the whole time he was left alone. I was very proud of him.

The second thing we trained was what we call “patrol”, the dogs are supposed to walk quietly along a track, and show their owner where in the woods people are located. This time we trained with noise, meaning that the dogs should react on noise in the wood, but without barking or getting all worked up. Strax took the sent from the person hiding very early; even before the trail, and then he didn’t want to pay more attention to that person…he wanted to follow the track instead. I guess we will have to work on that.
