We have had our first training! The pictures below are followed by some comments, and further down you'll find some more to read!
About to embark on our first patrol. We probably did all the mistakes possible, but on the picture above we at least have the right position, and we are looking for the "enemy" supposedly hanging around in the woods! :-)
Me and Strax thinking about stuff :-)
Långt före vi kom upp på patrullstigen hade Strax sniffat upp fienden - han befinner sig rakt utanför Strax nos på den här bilden, ca 70 meter ut i skogen :-)Strax detected the enemy far before we entered the patrol-trail, on this picture the person is right infront of Strax, about 70 meters out in the woods :-)
Strax in "base", behind him in the forest there are several more dogs waiting.
My forestanimal Strax found a place he could rest comfortably at. Unfortunately the mosquitoes did their best to bother us. Luckily Strax has a thick fur!

Yesterday we had our first training regarding the Swedish Armed Forces Dog (hereinafter SAFD) and Strax did very well. We trained what is called “base” meaning that he should be able to relax also when left alone among many other dogs in the woods. We place the dogs with a few meters distance, and they should just stay there and be quiet and calm until the owners or someone else comes to pick them up. Despite that some dogs stressed quite a lot, barking and chewing on threes, Strax managed to lie down and be totally calm during the whole time he was left alone. I was very proud of him.
The second thing we trained was what we call “patrol”, the dogs are supposed to walk quietly along a track, and show their owner where in the woods people are located. This time we trained with noise, meaning that the dogs should react on noise in the wood, but without barking or getting all worked up. Strax took the sent from the person hiding very early; even before the trail, and then he didn’t want to pay more attention to that person…he wanted to follow the track instead. I guess we will have to work on that.
